The Delhi–Jaipur corridor is one of India's busiest bus routes — roughly 280 km of mostly excellent highway (NH48) connecting the capital to Rajasthan's. Buses leave almost every half hour through the day, so the real question isn't whether you'll find a bus, but which one to take.

How long does it actually take?

Timetables say 5–6 hours. Reality depends almost entirely on how long the bus takes to escape Delhi and enter Jaipur. A 6:00 AM departure routinely does it in 5 hours; a 5:00 PM departure fighting Gurugram traffic can stretch past 7. If you have a choice, leave before 7 AM or after 9 PM.

Fare ranges

  • Non-AC seater: ₹300–450 — fine in winter, punishing in May.
  • AC seater: ₹500–700 — the class most travellers should pick here.
  • AC sleeper: ₹700–1,000 — only worth it on late-night departures; the trip is short enough that you barely settle in.

Fares surge around long weekends and festivals — often 1.5–2× on Diwali week. Book 5–7 days ahead for those windows; otherwise 1–2 days ahead is plenty.

Boarding points

In Delhi, most private operators board from Dhaula Kuan, Karol Bagh or Kashmere Gate ISBT; RSRTC state buses use Bikaner House on Pandara Road — a calm, well-organised departure point that regulars swear by. In Jaipur, arrivals are typically at Narayan Singh Circle or Sindhi Camp bus stand, both central.

The journey itself

Expect one 20–25 minute food halt near Behror, roughly halfway. The dhabas and food courts there price for captive customers — a thali runs ₹150–250. Carry water; even AC coaches get warm at the halt. Phone signal is solid the whole way, and the road is smooth enough to work on a laptop in a multi-axle coach.

Bus vs train vs cab on this route

The train (Shatabdi/Vande Bharat) is faster city-centre to city-centre when it aligns with your schedule, but buses win on frequency — you can decide to travel at almost any hour.
